Barnoldswick Town unlucky not to see off Northwich
Town were unfortunate not to claim all three points from their 1-1 draw with Northwich Victoria on Saturday.
There was a blow just before kick-off when Keeper Jordan Gidley was declared unfit to start, but just in case Town had drafted Bradley Garnett into the squad from Burnley Belvedere earlier in the week.
Early on, neither side created very much, before the game took off inside 10 minutes.
On 35 minutes Town took the lead, Joel Melia working his way crossfield before playing a great ball to Zack Dale on the edge of the area.
Dale’s shot hitting the bottom of the upright and cannoned across to the far side, where Mark Threlfall slid the ball home.
Three minutes later the Town defence were caught too far upfield, and a through ball played down the middle saw a Northwich player get just ahead of Liam Blades, who pulled him down and was given a red card.
However, things were evened up three minutes later when Daniel Johnson kicked out at a Town player, catching him on his leg.
Once again Referee Mark Reeves pulled out the red card, with both sides down to 10.
Northwich managed to level the scores after 53 minutes when Oscar Durnin scored from close range, giving Garnett no chance.
From then on, Town bossed the game, continually pressing for a winning goal, hitting the post and having a shot cleared off the line, while keeping the Northwich forwards at bay.
But the visitors held on for a draw.
Town are at AFC Liverpool tomorrow.
Town’s East Lancashire League side drew 2-2 with Colne United, who had led 2-0.
Teal Amos and Ellis Harling earned a deserved point for a young Town side.
