Barrowford stormed to victory in a tournament featuring some of the best Under 9 teams in the area.

The competition, held in Haslingden, attracted more than 20 Under 9s teams from across Lancashire and Greater Manchester.

Barrowford qualified as group winners and then went onto beat a strong Ribble Valley side Pro-Future before defeating Rossendale Wasps convincingly in the final.

Manager Steve Wilkinson said: “The whole team played superbly and showed what a strong footballing side they are.”

Amongst the “hit men” on the day was Michael Dale who scored 14 of the team’s total goals.

Nine-year-old Michael, from Colne, was recently awarded a trophy for the North Valley League Under 9s highest goal scorer. It is the second consecutive season that Michael has won the award.

His manager said: “Michael is a fantastic player who always gives 100% and always plays with a smile on his face. To win this award in two consecutive seasons is a real achievement.
