Ben Mee - Europe is still well within reach for Burnley

Burnley captain Ben Mee clears the danger as Spurs' Dele Alli applies the pressure at Turf Moor

Qualifying for the Europa League is still high up on the list of things to do for Burnley, according to skipper Ben Mee.

The 30-year-old centre back insists that the Clarets still have everything to play for on their return to action after going seven games unbeaten in the Premier League prior to the season’s suspension.

Just six points separate Manchester United in fifth spot and Sean Dyche’s side in 10th, with nine games still to play this term

Mee, who featured in both legs against Aberdeen last season as well as the away tie against Istanbul Basaksehir, said: “Hopefully we can pick up pretty quickly and continue in the good form that we were in.

“There’s not been too much reference to it [unbeaten run], we’re looking at the games we’ve got coming up.

“Maybe we can do something really special like we did a couple of years ago. We’ll have positive minds and we’ll look forward to these games.

“Momentum is a massive thing for any team in the league. If you can win games and get on a little bit of a run you can move right up the table.

“It [Europe] is something we can aim for. It’s within our reach. It’s something we can look at.

”Every player wants to play in Europe because those are the nights you remember when your career is finished. It’s something we’d love to do again so we’ll be going for everything we can.”

The Clarets have it all to do on their return to action.

They face a trip to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City on Monday following their demolition of Arsenal midweek.

Pep Guardiola’s men hit their straps in their first game back as Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden punished David Luiz’s dismissal.

”It’s exciting, it’s interesting, it’s going to be really intriguing,” said Mee, who grew up on the terraces at Maine Road.

“When we play them we’re going to have to be switched on all the time because they’re slick, they move the ball quickly and it’s going to be a tough game.

“They looked sharp and in really good nick. We’re going to have to be really focussed and on our game to go up against them.”
