Clarets boss Sean Dyche is keen to emphasise a philosophy of “one game at a time.”

And he feels his side go into that next game - the East Lancashire derby at Blackburn Rovers on Sunday - in terrific form.

Burnley completed a calendar year unbeaten in the Championship at Turf Moor with a 2-0 win over promotion rivals Derby County on Saturday - an 11th league game without defeat.

The victory have the Clarets a five-point cushion in the automatic promotion places, but Dyche urged caution: “Nothing’s changed in my book. I’ve been through a few good times in football myself, I know how hard it is. There’s still plenty of football left to be played.

“As much as we’re enjoying it - don’t get me wrong, and I’m sure the fans are enjoying it - it can only be done one step at a time.

“The next one is obviously a very local big step against Blackburn.

“It’s fair to say we’re in great shape for it.”

After six months in the top three, Burnley finally moved to favourites for promotion with bookmakers over the weekend, but Dyche added: “Nothing changes from us, there’s still plenty of football to be played. We’re going along nicely, we’ve got a nice feel to us, the energy’s terrific.

“They’ve got more to go. I’ve said it many times, the way they go in training, I see it every day. There’s a massive desire from this group to keep bring relentless and it was on show again I felt.”

Burnley have not lost at Turf Moor in the league since March 11th last year against Hull City, a run of 21 games, equalling the third-best sequence in the club’s history, set in 1901.

It came in front of the biggest crowd of the season of 17,285, and Dyche admitted: “It’s fantastic for the club and the fans, and fantastic for the team. We’ve certainly made this a very tough place for people to come. We enjoy playing here - we always have - it just feels better because you’re winning. Obviously that accelerates and boosts that feeling.

“I’m pleased to say it was another very good performance in front of our own crowd, and more in, which is obviously another bonus.”
