The tie had been delayed since January, due to coronavirus restrictions, but Tony Philliskirk’s side travelled to the recently opened Plough Lane stadium with the carrot of a home clash against Spurs in prospect in the fourth round.

However, the Dons earned an all-London encounter, as they knocked out the Clarets, who had reached the last eight last season, before going out to a solitary goal at eventual winners Manchester City.

Neither side created many chances of note in the first half, with Burnley keeper Sam Waller forced into a save from Dylan Adjei-Hersey’s header on the half hour.

The second half continued in the same vein, and with 12 minutes remaining, Dylan Mooney fed Michael Mellon, whose shot was saved by Matthew Cox.

And two minutes later, the hosts carved out what proved to be the winner as Aron Sasu broke into the area and his centre was turned in by Paris Lock.
