Can Burnley make it five unbeaten at Old Trafford?

The Clarets have lost their last two Premier League outings, having led against Southampton and Newcastle United, meaning they have taken only eight points from 30 this season against the bottom six sides.

But they have again shown they can beat anyone – winning at Liverpool and Arsenal for the first time since the 1970s.

Burnley’s last trip to United in January last year, saw them win there for the first time since 1962.

Indeed, the 2-0 victory came on the back of two-successive 2-2 draws, in which the Clarets led 2-0 on both occasions, and a goalless draw in 2015, memorable for Tom Heaton’s heroics.

Boss Sean Dyche knows his side will have to deliver a performance to have a chance of claiming a fifth game without defeat at Old Trafford.

But, as the Clarets look to edge towards mathematical safety in the top flight, he isn’t concerned about who the results come against, looking purely at the accumulation of points over the season.

Dyche looked ahead to the game: “Man United is not an easy place to go, but we just concentrate on performances, because if we keep performing like that (against Newcastle) we will see ourselves right.

“The focus will be on performing, and I don’t think we were far away last week at Southampton, and we weren’t against Newcastle.”

In the defeat to Newcastle, who turned the game round within eight minutes of substitute Allan Saint-Maximin’s introduction, Burnley had more shots – 24 – than in any other game this season, and also won 13 corners.

Dyche doesn’t take the statistics at face value, but felt the quality of chances his side created was enough to win on another day: “That was one of the most dominant performances we have had all season.

“But the main statistic you have to get right is the scoreline.

“It is the quality of chance – I don’t get carried away with the number of chances.

“We still think we can make quality chances at times, but we still did enough to get that second goal I thought.”
