Trawden Celtic Junior Football Club are planning to launch two new teams in the coming season – provisionally in the under 7 and under 10 age groups.

The club is one of the smallest in the area, but has proven that determination and hard work can go a long way, as two of their three junior teams won trophies this season.

The Under 11s won the East Lancashire Cup and were plate winners at the recent Barrowford Celtic tournament; while the Under 15s won promotion to the East Lancashire League First Division, as champions.

Club Secretary Dave Whitefield said: “We’re a small club that serves the east end of Colne and outlying villages – we currently only have three junior teams.

“Some of the larger clubs in East Lancashire have several teams in each age group and they can cherry pick players - we have a much smaller pool to draw talent from, but our qualified coaches focus on team building and working with the lads that we have.

“This approach serves us well – as this season’s silverware proves. Our aspiration is that our junior team feed through to our two senior teams, both of whom reached cup finals this season.

“We are planning open sessions over the summer in time to get new teams up and running. So we’re urging people to get in touch if they have a child or know of a young person who is keen to develop their talent and play for a successful club.
