Clarets boss targets Stoke midfielder

As Dyche looks to add top flight experience and quality to his Championship-winning squad, I understand he sees the 30-year-old Scotland international as a player who could make an impact and help the Clarets retain their status.

Adam, who joined the Potters for a fee in the region of £4m in 2012 from Liverpool, made 25 appearances last term, scoring once in the penultimate game of the season against Crystal Palace.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes isn't actively looking to sell the player, who has two years remaining on his contract, and Adam is also believed to be happy at Stoke, though was he to leave, having settled in the area after previously playing for Blackpool and Liverpool, the option of joining another Premier League club in the north west would be tempting.

A deal wouldn't come cheap for Burnley, taking into account his wages and likely fee, but Stoke's long-held interest in Michael Keane could also come into the equation, with the club having been linked with a £7M offer for the 23-year-old centre back in the January window.

Burnley have already turned down a bid, thought to be in excess of £10m, from Premier League champions Leicester City, for Keane.
