Colne confirmed their highest-ever position as they won 4-2 at Bootle on Saturday to seal fourth place.

Danny Boyle ended the season with a hat-trick – taking his tally to 39 – while Jason Hart was also on target.

The Reds went ahead after seven minutes when Nathan Bond sent Hart through, and he squared for Boyle to score with a well-placed shot into the bottom corner.

The Reds lead was short-lived as, from a corner six minutes later, Steven Milne fired home at the second attempt.

Five minutes after the interval, Colne regained the lead when Kieran Demaine released Boyle down the left, and he slipped the ball inside for Hart to score with a chip.

After 68 minutes, Bootle were awarded a penalty when the ball struck Marc Young on his arm. Young was sent off, but Chris Thompson kept out Neil Mc Queen’s spot kick, diving to his right.

Colne increased their lead after 77 minutes when Demaine released Boyle to slot home past the keeper.

Within a minute, Bootle pulled it back to 3-2 with a fortuitous goal from Vita Mbdokele, whose high cross dropped inside the far post.

But in the last minute Hart broke down the left and his low cross was fired into the roof of the net by Boyle.
