Five for Seb in big away win
Sebastian Julien hit all five goals as Nelson hammered AFC Liverpool 5-1 at Rossett Park on Wednesday night.
While the Blues’ chances of staving off the drop remain slim – they are now 10 points adrift of safety with nine games remaining – boss Alex Norwood had six players under 17 in his starting line-up.
And that reliance on youth came up trumps, against a side eighth in the North West Counties League Premier Division.
Julien grabbed his first on 27 minutes when he tapped in from a Ben Hoskin centre, and it was 2-0 seven minutes from the break when Morgan Crowther had a shot saved, but Julien followed in for his second.
AFC Liverpool pulled one back before the break through Emini Adegbenro, but it was the Julieb show in the second half, as he produced a remarkable performance.
He completed his hat-trick after 51 minutes after a slip from the home keeper, and Julien made it 4-1 19 minutes from time with a superb header.
His fifth came seven minutes from time, smashing the ball into the top corner.
It was a a far cry from Saturday, when Julien was sent off in the first half at home to Hanley Town, with the game goal-less.
Nelson went on to lose 2-1.
Daniel Cope gave the visitors the lead just before the hour, before Theo Stair doubled the lead six minutes later.
Morgan Crowther pulled one back nine minutes from time.
Nelson are at Runcorn Town tomorrow, and host Irlam on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, Nelson chief executive Adam Keizer feels the club can respond positively, if they are to be relegated.
Speaking to nelsonfc.com, he said: “If we do go down the club is in good shape to deal with it.
“Al (Norwood)’s been superb for us, he’s the right fit for the club. We haven’t been able to get the amount of wins we hoped for, but appointing Al wasn’t just about trying to survive this season, it was about putting in place the right culture and building around our superb youth team.
“There’s a feeling of a new era beginning at Nelson FC.”
