Trawden Celtic’s Under 13s took on Sportverein Hausach U13, a team from a small town in the Black Forest area of Germany, on Sunday.
Friendship has existed between the clubs since Celtic visited Hausach in 1975 for an Easter Tournament. During the 1970s and 80s, there were several exchange visits, and former Celtic players Michael Timberlake, Terry Corteen and Andy Webster actually played for Hausach’s first team in the 1970s as many strong friendships developed. The friendship was reignited this Easter as Hausach Under 13s were visiting Trawden for an eight-day football tour – with help from Michael Timberlake they had stadium tours at Old Trafford, Burnley, Liverpool and Manchester City and went to watch Stoke v Tottenham. A fantastic day was had by all, with the boys having a great experience, and the Cotton Tree Inn providing refreshments for teams after the game. For the record, Hausach recorded a 3-0 win with three second half goals, but football and friendship were definitely the winners, with the Trawden lads already asking for a return trip to Hausach.
