Bushido Ju Jitsu Barnoldswick, who train from their Earby Dojo, have had two of their intermediate age group students awarded the grade of Black Belt.

Robert Horsfield (16) and Ben Summersgill (15) were recently graded by a panel of high-ranking Black Belts of the British Ju Jitsu Association.

The grading panel consisted of Sensei John Idle 7th Dan, Sensei Philip Atkinson 6th Dan and Sensei Andy Pryce 6th Dan.

Robert and Ben were graded separately, with each grading taking place over a 45-minute examination period, where both students had to demonstrate a vast array of techniques to defend themselves in response to single and multiple attacks.

Their class instructor Sensei Richard Asbery 6th Dan said: “Their achievement is the result of seven years of dedicated training.

“During their grading both lads showed great technique and fighting spirit, as well as great levels of stamina.”

Robert and Ben will now spend the next year consolidating their skill and knowledge before being given the chance to demonstrate that they are worthy of being promoted to full 1st Dan level.
