A Town squad with only two substitutes were knocked out of the FA Vase on Saturday.

However, to bolster the team, Michael Cruz signed from Colne.

The match started in tentative fashion, before Newcastle took the lead after 10 minutes.

A ball played over top found Stephen Baptist, and he drew Town keeper Jake Chadwick before finishing well.

Town equalised after 17 minutes, as Kieran Lee’s cross was helped on by Mark Threlfall, and Aaron Hollindrake swivelled and sent a left-foot shot low to the left of keeper Jake Cunningham.

There was a let off for Town within a minute when the unmarked James Luccock headed wide, althoughThrellfall saw a shot go agonisingly wide with Cunningham beaten.

The hosts regained the lead on 39 minutes, as a corner was headed in by Baptist.

Newcastle should have increased their lead three minutes into the second half, Chadwick making a double save at point blank range to deny Luccock and Steven Bowey.

Just after the hour, Cunningham desperately cleared a back pass, with the ball judged to have not crossed the goalline by the officials.

Town had chances as as they searched for for the equaliser, but in stoppage time, Luccock made the game safe with a third.
