The Clarets are still seven points clear of the relegation zone with seven games left to play, but missed out on a golden opportunity to essentially rubber stamp their safety after throwing away a lead against a team in the bottom half of the table for a second week running.
Speaking after the match, manager Sean Dyche said: "I'm not disappointed in the performance because it was very dominant, but disappointed you don’t get anything from the game.
"That's football, you have to turn the key moments in your favour.
"We didn’t get the second goal, that was important, I felt, despite creating enough to get a second.
"And then two relatively soft goals, certainly the first one we don't deal with, we don't get in the line of the shot and make a block, which we normally do.
"The second we get too deep, too early, and that allows the lad to show a bit of talent.
"Disappointed in that, but not the performance overall."
Dyche’s men come up against Manchester United at Old Trafford in their next top flight outing on Sunday.
The Clarets were edged out 1-0 when the two sides met earlier this season, with Paul Pogba scoring the winner at Turf Moor.
