Mee not taking form for granted in run-in

Mee was on target in a 3-1 win at Huddersfield Town on Saturday, his second of the season, as the Clarets claimed a sixth-successive victory, and extended their unbeaten run to 14 games.

Coupled with a surprise draw for Hull at home to MK Dons, and Middlesbrough’s 2-0 defeat at Charlton, on top of the doubt surrounding Boro boss Aitor Karanka’s future, and it was a profitable weekend for Burnley.

Mee insists it remains a case of “one game at a time”, the mantra which served Sean Dyche’s men so well two years ago: “It’s not in our hands, we don’t take anything for granted.

“As with the last time we were up in this same situation, we take it a game at a time.

“We don’t let the pressure get to us, we just go out there and win games.

“That’s what we do.”

Burnley are the only unbeaten Championship side in 2016, and have come from seven points behind then leaders Derby County after their last defeat – the 3-0 reverse at Hull City on Boxing Day – to march ahead at the top.

But Mee doesn’t agree with some onlookers suggesting the title is now Burnley’s to lose.

He said: “Not at all, no.

“We just take every game as it comes and we don’t really think about it at the minute.

“To go and win the league, that’s our aim.

“That’s where we want to be.

“But to say it’s in our hands at the minute, no, not at all.

“We’re not overthinking things.

“We go into games clear-minded, and as the gaffer says, if you get a win one week, it doesn’t mean you’re going to win the next. You’ve got to put the effort in.

“We’ve had some not great performances recently, but we’ve ground out wins.

“We know how to win games, and that’s a big part of our dressing room that we can do that, and if we’re not on form we can rely on players to win games and be solid at the same time as well.

“We don’t really feel the pressure, we’ve not felt the pressure up to now.

“We’re a good group of lads with the same mentality we’ve had all season.”

Burnley are only focusing on what they can control – their own performances – and paying little attention to what is going on elsewhere in the promotion chase: “We don’t concentrate on it. We’re aware of it obviously, things that are going on in the league. We’re aware of what’s going on at the bottom of the table and at the top of the table, it doesn’t make any difference.

“We are where we are for a reason because we’re a good side and we believe in ourselves to get wins going into games.”
