Nelson climbed to sixth in the NWC Premier Division as second half goals from Peter Wright and Alex Porter saw off lowly Blackpool on Saturday.

Play was even in the oprning stages, but Nelson began to get their passing game together and trouble the visitors.

Joe O’Neill headed Dan Mahoney’s cross just wide, while O’Neill then forced Adam Caunce into a double save.

Mitch Newsham had a clear chance for Blackpool, but screwed his shot wide, and at the other end, O’Neill sent an effort against the outside of the post.

After the break, Wright and Robert Grimes combined for the former to net his 12th goal of the season.

Grimes then had a fierce drive handled, and from the free kick, Port directed the ball around the wall and into the net.

From a Porter corner, Wright fed O’Neill, whose shot drifted wide, and O’Neill fired straight at Caunce after good play from Wright.

Substitute Paul Fildes flashed a first-time shot just over, before Blackpool’s Ben Singleton was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Fildes was denied by a brilliant save at the death, but the Blues had a second-succesive win and clean sheet.
