Nelson claimed their first win in five outings with an impressive 3-2 triumph against Cheadle Town at Park Road Stadium.
It took the Blues some time to find their wings as they fought against a strong wind.
Jordan Walker fired wide of the target early on for the hosts while Blues’ skipper Chris Turner found the side-netting, Nat Taylor headed wide and Town stopper Steve Piggott plunged to his post to deny Adam Stockdale in a goalless first half.
The away side took the lead after the break when Stockdale nodded Tom Murphy’s long throw in to the path of Taylor who lashed the ball beyond Piggott to make it 1-0.
Turner’s corner then caught Piggott by surprise as it cannoned back off the bar, but the Blues made it 2-0 when Joe Wilkinson notched his first goal for the club after Finch rolled the ball into his path from Turner’s set-piece.
Substitute Carl Sutton almost reduced the arrears when striking the post but the hosts pulled one back when Finch conceded a penalty which was tucked away by Pickering.
With 10 minutes remaining Fell brought on Kalim Hafeji for Taylor and the substitute ran on to a perfect through ball to lob Piggott and score with his first touch.
Adam Roberts made it 3-2, but the Blues held on to take the points.
The Blues entertain Chadderton at Victoria Park tomorrow, kick-off 3 p.m.
