Nelson suffered a disappointing exit from the League Cup as they lost 4-0 at Formby on Saturday.
The Blues suffered a bad day at the office, coming away with nothing to show for their efforts, other than seven bookings.
The Admirals thought they should have had an early penalty for handball, which went unpunished, and the deadlock was broken on nine minutes, as a Formby corner was smashed through a crowd of players by Marvin Molyneux and into the net.
Nelson responded well and hit the woodwork twice through Brandon Barski and Peter Wright.
After the break, the Blues enjoyed sustained pressure, but it wasn’t their day.
On 70 minutes, from a Nelson corner, the hosts broke, and a Formby clearance spun away from Ben Woodhead who was deceived by the flight of the ball, leaving a tap in for Mark Kirby to double the lead.
As Nelson pushed to get back into the game they were hit with two sucker punches, the first a break down the right superbly finished by Kieron Brislen, and finally a six-yard finish from John Presscot with the Admirals all at sea at the back.
Tomorrow Nelson host Northwich Flixton Villa in the league, before Colne come to Victoria Park in the cup on Wednesday, kick-off 7-45 p.m.
