Nelson 0, Formby 4

Nelson lost their top of the table clash with Formby on Saturday - although the referee had a big say in things.

Debutant Ian Kilford was sent off midway through the first half, also conceding a penalty to make it 2-0, when the ball hit his chest and was deemed to have been handled.

The visitors went ahead after five minutes when Kieron Brislen broke the off-side trap and finish neatly past Ben Woodhead.

But on 23 minutes, Kilford slipped in the box, but got to his feet, only for Mark Kirby’s shot to hit him on his chest.

The referee sent Kilford off, gave Formby a penalty, and Mikey White stepped up from the spot to double the advantage.

Mark Fell was sent from the dugout for his protests, and worse was to come as Matty O’Neill went off with an ankle problem, replaced by Brandon Barski.

Twenty seconds into the second half, it was game over as Kirby squared to Franny Smith, who tucked the ball in at the near post.

And on 55 minutes it was 4-0, as Brislen found Luke Holden, who had time to turn and finish past Woodhead.

Nelson were at Holker on Boxing Day, but are then without a league game until January 11th when they entertain AFC Darwen.
