It took 40 minutes for the home side to finally break Burnley' s resolve when Callum Hudson-Odoi slipped the ball to Cesar Azpilicueta and the Spaniard smashed the ball home.
Marcos Alonso added to Chelsea's lead in the second half when turning Ben Mee and thumping the ball into the roof of the net from a Christian Pulisic cross.
1. Nick Pope 6
Couldn't do a great deal with either of Chelsea's goals. Handling was clean, communication was good, made a couple of routine saves, did well to keep out Mee's ricochet and got down nicely to deny James.
2. Matt Lowton 7
Very bright in the first half. Limited Werner and Alonso in the first half, won his 50/50s and carried the ball out from the back with confidence. Could possibly have done more to prevent Pulisic from teeing up Chelsea's second.
3. Erik Pieters 6
Guilty of standing off Hudson-Odoi at times, offering the pacey winger a running start, and looked to have obstructed Mee when retreating into the box for Azpilicueta's opener. Dug in and did well to turn a Hudson-Odoi effort on to the post.
4. Ben Mee 6
Had his blushes spared by Poope when almost turning the ball into his own net and didn't get tight enough to Alonso for Chelsea's second. Defended incredibly well in the first half, winning the majority of his individual battles, as the Blues were restricted.
