SkyBet Championship Player of the Year Danny Ings can’t wait to live his dream and join former Turf Moor team-mate Jay Rodriguez in the Premier League next season.

The pair were among the club’s striker’s union - which also included Charlie Austin and Martin Paterson – on Ings’s arrival from Bournemouth at the start of the 2011/12 term.

Burnley-born Rodriguez, who was devastatingly ruled out of the World Cup in Brazil after rupturing his anterior cruciate knee ligament, similarly to Clarets striker Sam Vokes, made a £7m. move to Southampton in the summer of 2012 and has since gone on to win a full cap for Roy Hodgson’s England side.

“Jay Rod is a fantastic player with unbelievable ability,” said Ings. “It’ll be good to play against him - he’s a top lad and deserves all the success he gets. It will be good to see him.

“I’m looking forward to playing against everyone though. It’s the Premier League, it’s every lads’ dream. Getting there with Burnley Football Club is a magnificent feeling.”

The 21-year-old, capped for Gareth Southgate’s young Three Lions setup, has also had to wait patiently for his reward after recovering from numerous spells on the sidelines.

The 25-goal striker, voted the division’s star performer ahead of Leeds United’s Ross McCormack and Leicester City’s Danny Drinkwater, said: “Of course I take pride (in goal tally), it’s a fantastic feeling for me. The last two years have been quite frustrating but the fans and everyone at the club have stuck with me and to repay them now is a great feeling.

“From day one, as soon as I got those injuries, I said I was going to work as hard as I can in the gym to get back to where I should be. I did that, worked hard with long hours on the training pitch and it’s paid off now.”

Ings added: “I’m so proud of all the players, all the staff and everybody associated with the club. They’ve been absolutely fantastic from the start of pre-season until now and they deserve this.

“We’ve done it, the lads deserve it, and the fact that we can talk about ‘promotion’ now is great. It’s come true. I love playing for Burnley Football Club.”
