Reds host Football League outfit at XLCR for first time

Colne FC will host a club from the Football League for the first time in its history this week.

League Two outfit Accrington Stanley, managed by John Coleman, will be the visitors to the XLCR Stadium on Wednesday, kick-off 7-45 p.m.

“We are proud to host a league club for the very first time in our history,” said Reds boss Steve Cunningham. “This type of game and atmosphere will be a very good test for the players as we prepare for a promotion challenge next season.”

Cunningham has been busy in the market. Striker Ben Allen has joined from Padiham, Ben Hoskin has made the switch from Nelson, forward Jay Hart has re-joined while former skipper Dominic Craig has also transferred from the Arbories.

Cunningham said: “All the players from last season have committed too which is great news, including Chris Anderson, Alex Coleman, captain Simon Nangle and leading scorer Danny Boyle. “

The Reds open on July 4th at Longridge (2 p.m.), take a trip to Haslingden St Mary’s on July 14th (7 p.m.) before, on the 18th, a double header at Euxton Villa.

On Wednesday the 22nd, Colne are at Darwen (7-45 p.m.), and the Reds host Ramsbottom United on the 25th (3 p.m.).

They are at Hurst Green on the 30th and at home to Glossop NE on August 1st (3 p.m.).

l Nelson are scheduled to travel to Coppull United on July 7th (7-30 p.m.) and Holker Old Boys on the 11th (3 p.m.).

They then host Accrington Stanley on July 15th (7-45 p.m.), before a trip to Marske United on the 18th (3 p.m.).

On the 29th, the Admirals entertain a Burnley XI (7 p.m.), and on August 1st are at home to Thackley AFC (3 p.m.).

l Barnoldswick Town’s first friendly game is at Burnley United on July 16th, before a trip to Charnock Richard two days later.

July 23rd sees a prestigious game at home to FC United of Manchester, and Town are at Irlam on the 25th.

Clitheroe come to Barlick on the 28th, and Town are at Rochdale Sacred Heart on the 30th.

There follows trips to Hemsworth MW on August 1st, Thackley on the 3rd, and Steeton on the 4th.
