Colne striker Oli Wood has joined Evo-Stik First Division North champions Lancaster City.
Reds boss Steve Cunningham was disappointed to see the prolific forward leave Holt House, as he looks to build on the club’s successful first season at Evo-Stik level, reaching the play-offs in fifth place, only to lose out at the semi-final stage to Farsley Celtic.
Wood ended the season with 20 goals, and a Colne statement read: “It was a shock to the management team to find out in this manner, but we thank him for services which helped us achieve the club’s highest league position.
“Oli had made a big contribution on and off the pitch, scoring 20 goals, including those from his former club, Kendal Town.”
Manager Steve Cunningham added: “It’s a shame Oli has left the club.
“It was only a couple of weeks ago on the lads’ trip to Portugal we were discussing plans. He is stepping up to a new level and expressed his desire to prove himself as high as he can, and you cannot fault him for that.
“We wish him well and thank him for his efforts and commitment last season.”
l Nelson will host Lancaster City (Tuesday, July 18th) and Barnoldswick Town (Saturday, July 22nd) in pre-season.
