Tarkowski makes first Clarets appearance

Deadline day signing James Tarkowski pulled on a claret and blue shirt for the first time on Tuesday as a Burnley XI lost 1-0 to former club Oldham Athletic at the Barnfield Training Centre at Gawthorpe.

Tarkowski played 90 minutes for the Clarets, as did Paul Robinson, Tendayi Darikwa, Michael Duff, Fredrik Ulvestad, Michael Kightly, Chris Long and Rouwen Hennnings, in a strong side.

Oldham, who featured Danny Lafferty and Cameron Dummigan – on loan from Burnley at Boundary Park – and former Burnley left back Joseph Mills, scored the only goal of the game after 12 minutes when Duff upended Rhys Murphy in the area, and Oldham’s first team skipper Liam Kelly beat Robinson from the spot.

Hennings was convinced he had given Burnley the lead seven minutes prior, as his 25-yard strike hit the bar and appeared to bounce over the line, but the officials were not convinced.

Hennings once came close, as he forced a fine save from David Cornell with a glancing header from a Darikwa cross.

Just before half-time, Nathan Lowe, back after a long-term injury, forced another good stop from Cormnell with a skidding 30-yard drive.

Ater the break, recent signing George Green hit the post with a terrific effort from distance, while Mills also hit the woodwork with a free kick.
