Three successive wins have sent Barnoldswick Town top of the NWC Premier Division.

Town won 1-0 at West Didsbury and Chorlton on Saturday, before a 5-1 rout of AFC Darwen at the Silentnight Beds Stadium on Tuesday night.

Stewart Airdrie’s side went 1-0 up after only five minutes against Darwen, as Mark Threlfall drilled the ball inside Anthony Windle’s left post. Eight minutes later, Threlfall fed Joseph Gaughan, who cleverly lifted his shot over Windle.

Darwen skipper Kiel Lonsdale was sent off for talking out of turn to the referee, and Town increased their lead with three minutes of the first half left, Threlfall again scoring with a low shot.

Three minutes after the restart, Gaughan drilled a shot low into the corner, and Gaughan completed his hat-trick from the spot.

Anthony Hodges was sent off for his protests.

On 55 minutes, Darwen pulled a goal back through Conor Gaul.

On Saturday, Gaughan was also on target with the only goal at West Didsbury, slipping a defender before shooting low inside the post.
