Maine Road hadn’t won in nine games in the Hallmark Security Premier Division but that all changed when they put four past Barnoldswick Town at the Silentnight Stadium.
A top 10 finish seemed on the cards for Danny Craig’s men having claimed their third win in succession against the same opposition in mid-February.
Zack Dale, John Beckwith and Emmanuel Ogundrinds netted the goals at Brantingham Road that evening but the pendulum swung in the opposite direction on this occasion.
Now Town have been condemned to three defeats on the bounce and they’ve dropped in to the bottom half of the table after shipping 11 goals in that spell.
Jonathan Mason’s double for the visitors provided Matt Barnes’s men with the ideal headstart though Aaron Hollindrake got Town back in to the game in the 25th minute.
Dale, who had opened the scoring in the corresponding fixture, bagged his 16th goal of the campaign to draw Town back on level terms only for Jack Coop to score twice in the final quarter-of-an-hour to make it 4-2.
Town entertain Widnes on Saturday and then host Padiham in the derby on Bank Holiday Monday. Both games kick off at 3 p.m.
Elsewhere, in the East Lancs League Second Division, Barnoldswick Town beat Peel Park 3-1.
Man of the match Bailey Coates ensured that Town’s pressure paid off, continuing where he’d left off the previous week to put the visitors ahead after 15 minutes.
Coates threatened again when hitting the crossbar directly from a corner but Jordan Slade doubled the lead just before the break when thumping a shot from 25 yards out in to the roof of the net.
The hosts pulled a goal back seven minutes in to the second half but Slade steadied the nerves and wrapped up the points in the 70th minute.
