On Saturday, Town somehow only picked up a point at Irlam in a game they dominated.

Mark Threlfall gave Town the lead two minutes into the second half, while Danny Boyle and Zack Dale were guilty of trying to pass the ball past Lee White in the Irlam goal, allowing him to make saves.

The Irlam equaliser came in the fourth minute of injury time, as Johnny Hodgkinson was adjudged to have handled the ball out wide, and from the free kick, Liam Morrison was unmarked on the six-yard line, easily beating keeper Thomas Turner, making his debut as Connor King was injured.

Town’s East Lancashire League side beat Huncoat 2-0 with two late goals as they got their season underway.

Teal Amos set up Micky Harrison for the opening goal in the 86th minute, and followed this up by scoring a fine low shot.
