Trawden Venue suffer rare defeat

Current League Cup holders Trawden Venue, were beaten by Pendle Charty League opposition for the first time in over 12 months as they faced Sacred Heart Redskins in the second round for the competition.

Ben Gorman opened the scoring for the holders, but David Potts equalised for Hearts. Potts headed his side in front on the hour, but Gorman added his second five minutes later. The winner came from Chris Whiteoak’s shot in the 85th minute.

Goals from Rick Scott, Lee Jackson and Craig Harrison secured a 3-1 win for AFC Shooters against Boca Clarets while a Haroon Afzal hat-trick and a Sammy Khan effort booked Paak A’s place in the last eight as they beat Queens Dynamoes 4-0.

A brace from Sean Thompson and goals from Charlie Sitaras, a brilliant bicycle kick from Mark Crabtree and an excellent shot from James Holmes proved enough for Colne Town to progress to the quarter-finals with a 5-3 win against Paak B.

Pendle Blues Athletic and Barnoldswick Barons from the second tier of the league also booked their places in the quarter-final stages with victories against Barnoldswick Barons Reserves and Pendle FC respectively.

Hat-tricks from Daniel Allott and Chris Crabtree and a Sam Irodenko effort secured a 7-1 win for Pendle Blues Athletic while a Gaz Turer hat-trick was the difference as Barons beat Pendle FC 3-2.

Jordan Jackson and Danny Morville replied for Pendle.
