League leaders Colne have been named North West Counties League Club of the Month for August.

NWC League chairman Paul Lawler presented Reds boss Steve Cunningham with the award before their 2-1 win at Alsager on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the club’s Under 18s lost 3-1 at home to Nantwich Town last Wednesday night, despite a spirited showing in the FA Youth Cup.

The Reds got off to a great start when Mike Hodson found the net with a perfectly judged lob over the keeper after a clever back-heel by Callum Wetherall had wrong-footed the Nantwich defence.

Colne matched the visitors throughout the first half and looked like taking their lead into the interval, but with three minutes of the half left, Jordan Bennion showed clever skills in the area as he teed the ball up and fired in the equaliser.

Five minutes into the second half, Nantwich took the lead when Colne failed to clear a corner and Callum Jones fired home through a crowded penalty area.

Colne pushed forward with Amritvir Chahal on the left wing and Matthew Shirt on the right but as they committed to attack, they were hit on the break after 63 minutes when Jones again fired the ball into the net through a crowded area for the third.

Colne battled to the end looking to reduce the deficit but the visitors ran out worthy winners as they soaked up some late pressure.
