Vokes named Championship player of the month

And boss Sean Dyche - who lost out on a second-successive manager of the month award to Rotherham's Neil Warnock - feels the Wales international was hard done to not winning the prize for February as well, after hitting a rich vein of form.

Vokes has 14 goals for the season, and Dyche said of the forward, and strike partner Andre Gray, who has also won FourFourTwo magazine's Championship player of the season award: "Both of them have had powerful seasons to date, and I can only expect they’ll continue to do that.

"I was surprised Vokesy didn’t win it for the month before actually. I thought he was excellent then as well.

"From early season to where he is now, he has moved on and on and on. I enjoy what he gives us.

"They’re a good combination for different ways and Andre’s goals are outstanding."

Vokes last won the award almost exactly two years ago, for February 2014, as he helped fire the Clarets to promotion to the Premier League, and he said: "It's obviously great to get the recognition, it's good on a personal note, but the team have been brilliant, we're 17 games unbeaten this year, and that's been a massive part of why we are we are, and hopefully that will continue because we've got some big games coming up.

"The run is brilliant, and contributing with a few goals helps along the way.

"We all work hard for each other, so any one of the boys could have won it, and March was a big month with points home and away."

However, Vokes admits the award will mean little unless Burnley are promoted again: "That's the end goal, the main target and we have six massive games coming up.

"We've had a chat about where we're at, and we have six games to show where we need to be.

"It's all positive and for now the season so far is parked, and we have six cup finals now.

"The run in is tough, especially when you're fighting for promotion, there is pressure with that, but I don't think the lads feel it because there's a lot of experience in there."
