Local community outreach organisation, Inspiring Grace, held its first Olympic archery competition on Sunday at the Ultimate Strength and Fitness Gym in Nelson.
The competition was open to those who had completed a basic six-week course, and anyone else who considered themselves competent in the sport.
With second and third place being awarded silver and bronze medals, and first place receiving a gold medal in an Olympic presentation box, the stakes were high.
In a head-to-head elimination contest following Olympic archery rules, with a time limit of 40 seconds per arrow, the bronze medal was won by Muhammad Umar.
The final saw Anser Ahmed face-off against Nabeel Ahmed, and although the match remained in the balance going into the last 3 arrows, Nabeel emerged the victor and champion – recipient of the first Inspiring Grace Archery Gold Medal.
