It’s been a golden couple of weeks for the Barlick Fell Runners, with success in relay events and cross country.
The Barlickers ran in the UKA Fell Running Championships at Middleton Fells, East Cumbria, fielding two teams.
The mixed team of Andrew Carson, Jen Hird, Rachel Lowther, Andy Berry, Sarah Tipler and Sam Gibbs took gold in what is the national relays for fell running.
Previously, the club finished eighth out of 70 teams at the Ian Hodgson Mountain Relay in Patterdale.
This is pure fell running and is four legs run in pairs.
The club beat well established clubs with pure fell pedigree.
Then this weekend, the club took part in the first Mid Lancs Cross Country event at Hyndburn, winning the men’s section outright.
There were Barlick shirts all the way through the field, with five runners, led by Jimmy Craig, finishing in the top 20, along with Chris Smale who finished in 32nd position,
Craig, Chris Singleton, Nick Treitl, Marc Hartley, Shaun Chew and Smale were the counters for the triumphant A team.
The B team also finished ninth team overall and lead their division as well, while the veterans’ team were seventh overall.
The ladies are currently third in their division after a fantastic fourth-placed run from Sarah Tipler and great supporting runs from Jennifer Hird and Rachel Lowther, as they finished 14th overall.
The next cross country race is on November 15th at Barrow.
