PENDLE Forest first team lost their unbeaten start to the season in a frustrating game at Broom.
Forest started well with the midfield of Cathy Waters, Deb Bythell, Dani Atherton and Karen Nuttall dominating the game and not allowing Broom players any time on the ball.
Forest created a number of chances, with Judith Hind going close and Waters firing in a cross that Nuttall was close to converting.
Jayne Kirkpatrick, in the Forest goal, had nothing to do in the first half apart from pick the ball out of the back of the net when a mistake by the Forest defence allowed a Broom forward to slot the ball away.
Forest came out in the second half determined to turn possession into goals.
The second half started in the same vein with Forest again dominating possession and winning 24 short corners.
Forest failed to convert any of these and Broom had two more counter attacks and scored both times to lead 3-0.
Forest battled to the end with player of the match Bythell running the midfield – tackling every Broom player, winning the ball and distributing to all areas of the pitch.
Forest will be looking forward to returning to winning ways when they play Morpeth away tomorrow.
Forest’s seconds lost 5-1 in the first round of the cup to Blackpool seconds, with Emma Ziegloser scoring and Ali De Curtis named player of the match.
The third team had no game as they had a bye in the plate.
