Two Burnley women are determined to raise funds by completing the Great North Swim next weekend for the Burnley Enterprise of Sport and Training at Network 65.
Donna Kelsall and Katy Higginson, both aged 35, have daughters who attend gymnastics classes at the B.E.S.T. Centre, which is always looking for fundraising help to enable the best equipment to be bought, creating excellent sporting opportunities for young people in the town.
Donna took part in the 2011 Great North Swim, and when Katy showed an interest in this year’s event, they decided to take up the challenge of the one-mile open water swim in Lake Windermere together.
Donna said: “We really need people to support us and help us to achieve our target of £500.
“Kimberley Sharples, the head coach, has had a personal tragedy to overcome recently, yet she has still managed to give her all supporting the development of the gymnastics squad, so at Kim’s request part of the money we raise will go towards an operation for a little boy with cerebal palsy.”
