Talented teenage boxer Tommy Ellsmore has made it through to the England ABA Championship quarter-finals after beating Lascelles Henry.
The 13-year-old, from Colne, earned the nod from the ringside judges after flooring his Gorton ABC foe in the third and final round of his North West Region ABA Schoolboy Championship bout in Worsley.
After winning the 50-52kg class final, Tommy’s trainer John Brindle, of Clayton ABC, said: “Lascelles was a tall boxer with an awkward range to fight against but Tommy stuck to his game plan of getting on the inside to trouble his opponent. It worked a treat and he had the added bonus of forcing a count in the final round. The next stage is the England quarter-finals against some of the best fighters the amateur setup has to offer.”
