SET FOR BUSY YEAR: Anne Bristoe

COLNE triathlete Anne Bristoe has been selected as a member of the Somerset-based TRI UK-sponsored Race Team for 2011.

The 46-year-old met up with her fellow team members at the team’s launch last weekend in Yeovil.

The launch saw team members swim in the TRI UK endless pool, go for a team run and bike training session, as well as collect their sponsored team kit from 2011 sponsors TRI UK, Gatorade, FOOR, Newton, 2XU, TYR, Easton, Fizik, Kuota, Met, Triathlete Europe, tri247.com and SRAM.

Anne said: “I feel very proud and excited to have been selected to race for Team TRI UK for the second year running.

“It’s good to have such a great team of friendly experts who you can look to for guidance.

“My goal this year would be to qualify for the Long Course Triathlon World Championships in Nevada, America in November.”

First though, she will be taking part in the Pendle Triathlon on May 15th based in and around West Craven Sports Centre - a sprint triathlon, comprising of a 750m swim, 22.4km cycle and 5.4km run, taking in the rolling scenery of the surrounding areas.

But that event is a mere warm-up for her preferred long distance and iron man triathlons.

The iron man events include a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle ride and a full marathon, with Anne’s personal best standing at 12 hours 23 minutes.

Anne took up the sport after the birth of son Joseph, and added: “When I had my son, I put on weight and took up triathlons to get the weight off.

“I had always wanted to do the iron man triathlon, and got into the long course event and enjoyed it.”

Joseph, at eight, also has the bug, having taken an interest, and he is due to do his first children’s triathlon in July.

Anne will have a packed schedule of national and international races throughout the 2011 season, and co-owner of TRI UK, and team manager, Ali Boon said: “Anne was a natural choice when we were selecting our team for 2011.

“We have grown the race team to a 50-plus strong team, which is now the envy of the triathlon world, and Anne ‘s dedication and loyalty meant that she was an obvious choice for the team.

“We are looking forward to a year of success together”.
