PROUD Colne triathlete Anne Bristoe has seen her son follow in her footsteps.

Anne races triathlon for Somerset-based Team TRI UK, and eight-year-old son Joseph has caught the bug - competing in his first childrens triathlon on Sunday in Alsager.

He took part in the childrens fun triathlon, aimed at children between the ages of seven and 16, with the emphasis on participation in sport, and, of course, to have fun.

Depending on the age of the child, there were varying distances.

Joseph swam 25m, cycled 1km and ran 500m.

The competitors were not timed, so there was no pressure on the children, and. therefore there was no loser.

Everyone was a winner, and all competitors got a t-shirt and medal.

The event was so popular, over 300 children took part, and mum Anne said: “It was fantastic to watch the kids taking part in the sport of triathlon.

“The weather was fantastic, if a little too hot, and all the kids finished with a smile on their face.

“Joseph enjoyed every minute of it and is looking forward to his next kids’ triathlon.

“We are keeping it in the family!”

Bristoe, 46, is aiming to qualify for the Long Course Triathlon World Championships in Nevada, America in November.

Her preferred competitions are long distance and iron man triathlons.

The iron man events include a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle ride and a full marathon, with Anne’s personal best standing at 12 hours 23 minutes.
