Duo beat awful weather to win Fourball

THE Autumn Fourball at Ghyll Golf Club on Sunday was won with a great score of 43 points by Ainsley Ashby and Maurice Lloyd.

Second on a card play-off with 39 points were Wayne Bury and Keith Whittingham, with Steven Mortimer and Jack Farnhill in third place.

The ladies played a fun flag competition which finished with Desley Mitchell winning by planting her flag two inches from the 18th hole.

In the Club Knockouts, the Larry Stocker Trophy was won by Maurice Lloyd, who beat Jonnie McGeachie in the final.

The Fred Whittaker Shield went to Martin Robinson and David Cockell, who beat John and James Cowgill.

The Meldrum Shoe was won by Trevor Towers and Lesley Nash, who beat Colin and Anne Maud in the final.

The Parkins Trophy saw Mark Hargreaves beat Ian Heald in the final.

The Ladies’ Singles Knockout was won by Anne Preston, and the Ladies’ Doubles Knockout claimed by Anne Maud and Patricia Wilkinson.

• AT Marsden Park, the provisional result of the Category competition on Saturday saw the 1-11 division won by Sean Flanagan (75-7-68) from Stuart Mulligan (80-11-69) - second on the card from Nathan Lingard (72-3-69).

Best gross was Nathan Lingard’s 72.

The 12 -17 category was won by Richard Walton (87-17-70) after cards from Hedley Dransfield (86-16-70) and Anthony Harwood (83-12-71), and the 18+ division was won by Howard Taylor (90-12-69) ahead of Adrian Farnell (90-20-70) and Robert Stanton (94-18-76).

The Ladies’ Strokeplay was won by Jane McGregor (83-6-77), from Julie Alderson (104-26-78) and Margaret Frankland (98-20-78).
