THE sun shone for Lady Captain’s Day at Nelson, as Eileen Baron won the 27-hole Captain’s Trophy.
She shot 129-19.5-109.5 to win on the card from Marion Wilkinson (135-25.5-109.5), who reduced her handicap by one on the first 18 holes.
Third was Ann Wardley (137-27-110) on the card from Jane McGregor.
Over the last nine holes of the 27, Christine Sparks (47-11-36) came out on top, and over the last 18 holes, McGregor’s 78-6-72 took the prize, ahead of Anne Green (99-26-73) - claiming her first prize in the event after 40 years of trying! - and Jane Yates (106-30-76).
Nearest the pin on the 2nd was Sheila Clay, with Pat Greenwood nearest on the 16th.
Nearest the line on the 18th was Christine Irlam, the putting prize went to Jill Thomason, and the bridge prize to Marie Diggle.
• THE Scratch Shield was played at Colne on Saturday.
Overall champion was Guy Bretherton with 146 five clear of Peter Lane, with Matthew Iveson (152) third.
In the morning, Bretherton’s 69 saw him lead from Iveson (74) and Lane (76).
Over the second 18 holes, Lane came out on top with a 75, ahead of Russell Nesbitt and Martin Taylor, who both scored 76.
Last Monday at Colne, Val Turpin won the former Lady Captain’s competition with a score of 97-24-73.
On Thursday, the ladies were playing for the Captain’s Prize.
The outright winner was Liz Gornall with a score of 89-22-67, reducing her handicap by two shots.
In second place Liz Reddy returned a score 84-15-69, having the lowest gross and reducing her handicap by one shot. In third place was Anita Duncan, returning 95-22-73.
