Heald’s bowl win at Ghyll Golf Club

WITH several players scoring net par or better, Matthew Heald with 79-13-66 won the Windle Bowl at Ghyll Golf Club.

Tony Hartley (77-8-69) won Division One, Graham Tibbott (79-10-69) Division Two and Ken Inman (92-26-66) won Division Three.

In the Four Man Team Open, club members Steve R Mortimer, Jack Farnhill, Dereck Hartley and Steve S. Mortimer came out winners with 113 points. In second place was Tony Hartley and his guests from Nelson Golf Club with 109 points. and in third place captain-elect David Taylforth, vice-president Anthony Fisher and their team with 107 points.

l LIZ Reddy has played at Colne Golf Club for 26 years and last week’s Margaret Birtwistle Trophy was the first Board Competition she has won. She continued her fine form by winning the Stableford competition with a score of 38 points, four points clear of Eva Pinder, with third place Jennifer Sims one shot behind.

The Clifford Bullock bogey competition was won by new member Andrew Kellett, who joined the club recently after returning to the area. He finished level - enough to win by one hole from Marshall Brown.

l AT Marsden Park, on a fine day with difficult conditions, there were some excellent scores. The men competed for the Wilcock Trophy, won by Adrian Lingard (68-5-63), from Ian Davieson (71-6-65) with Paul Timberlake (77-10-67) third on the card.

Best Gross was Lingard’s 68.

The ladies played for the Founder Members Rosebowl, with Eva Pinder (90-21-69) winning by a shot from Janet Kelly (89-19-70). Third was Jane McGregor (87-7-80).

The juniors’ Dugdale Trophy was won by Jake Proctor (118-36-82) ahead of Thomas Nicholson (125-42-83).

l AT Nelson Golf Club, the Centenary Trophy was won by T. Dickinson (69-4-65).

The 0-12 division went to J. Gould (77-11-66) on a card play-off, and the 13-28 division was won by I. Plowright (81-15-66). Best gross was Nick Uttley’s 67.

Last Thursday, the Joyce Crabtree Trophy and Ladies’ LGU Brooch and Medal were amalgamated.

Vena Eastwood won with 92-20-72 from Christine Fletcher (97-24-73) and Jane Yates (105-30-75).

Vena, Christine and Margaret Pickles - who also had a good round - had their handicaps reduced by a shot.

For the juniors, the Dave Whalley Cup was won by Ben Uttley (98-35-63) ahead of Matthew Halstead (80-12-68) and George Stanworth (89-20-69). Ben Ross’ 74 was best gross.

Friday’s 13-hole stableford was won again by Ben Uttley with 30 points, from Harry Stanworth (23) and Halstead (21).
