Pendle Forest thirds lost 2-1 at Springfields fourths at Preston in a mid-table Second Division clash.
Forest started brightly and Zoe Kidney hit the side netting after a reverse stick sweep.
But Springfields opened the scoring when they slipped the ball through Rosie Southworth’s pads.
Forest were awarded two penalty corners, but could not capitalise on them.
And to add insult to injury, Springfields broke and scored a second before half-time.
After the break, Forest threw everything at Springfields and were awarded a number of penalty corners in the last 10 minutes. They pulled one back when Diane McInnes hit out to player of the match Freya Bythell, who played a peach of a pass for Cath Hutchinson to swipe goalwards, and McInnes slotted in from close range.
Forest peppered Springfields’ goal but they couldn’t find an equaliser.
The second team’s game was postponed.
