THE final of this season’s Pendle Pool League Doubles Knockout took place at Colne Legion between Craig Franks and Anthony Pickup of Golden Ball and Bob Macro and Paddy Davies of Lamb WMC.
With each pairing containing a former Individual Knockout champion, there was a healthy respect shown on both sides.
The first two frames were very tactical affairs, taking over an hour to complete, with honours even.
Frame three saw the Golden Ball pair take the upper hand with a well-worked finish by Pickup, but after failing to lay a snooker in frame four, it was Pickup who let in Macro to level the score at 2-2.
With all to play for and each pair vying to create an advantage, it eventually fell to Franks, however the advantage evaporated when, after potting his final colour, the cue ball finished so close to the black that it was impossible to attempt a pot, so a safety shot was all that he could play.
Relieved to get back to the table, up stepped Davies, who cleared the remaining balls to seal a well-deserved title for the Lamb pair.
