Forest thirds travelled to Preston to meet Springfields who beat them 4-1 last time out.
Forest started brightly and scored early on thanks to a penalty corner by Emma Ziegloser who belted an absolute rocket of a ball into the bottom right hand corner of the goal.
Springfields equalised soon after and managed a second before half-time with only last ditch defending from Rosie Southworth and player of the match, Lucy Holt, keeping the scoreline respectable.
At the restart some confusion in defence allowed Springfields to sneak an easy goal within a minute of the push. Manager, Ian Bythell, made changes and the inspirational introduction of Cath Hutchinson into the centre of midfield meant McInnes could move into her more familiar role on the left.
Hutchinson and McInnes linked well and Forest managed to push Springfields back into their own half. A number of goal scoring opportunities went begging for Forest but their chances had given them confidence. Despite Forest’s efforts they somehow found themselves 4-1 down but they were never going to give up the fight.
Forest did get a second and it was no less than they deserved when Ziegloser linked with Robinson who then fired a ball in for McInnes who slotted home to make it 4-2.
Ziegloser pulled another back with 10 minutes remaining but despite a hectic final few minutes could not find a late equaliser.
