At the British Long Distance Swimming Associations Annual Awards Ceremony in Cheshire, Barnoldswick’s Mick Blackburn was recognised for his efforts in the 2014 season.

Mick won the Harry Moffat Award - for services on the water throughout the season.

For many years Mick has shown complete dedication to the towing, upkeep repair and improvements of the Safety Boats and trailers, spending his own time and efforts to ensure they are fully functional for each championship, ensuring the safety of swimmers.

He is seen at the majority of swims either on the safety boats or in a kayak supporting swimmers. Present at most of the swims, a tireless servant of the BLDSA, his cheeky grin and quick quips conceal the skill and commitment to ensuring his swimmers are safe.
