Pendle Athletic Club recently held a presentation evening at Nelson Cricket Club.

Certificates and trophies were presented by England International netball player Natalie Haythornthwaite - a member of the sprint group at the club up to 2009, when her full commitment had to be given to netball.

Chair Peter Blackburn said it had been a good year for the club. Senior athletes in a composite team with Burnley AC were Northern League Division Three champions, and young athletes were runners-up in the new Youth Development League.

At the Lancashire County Cross Country Championships, Lancashire Schools’ Cross Country Champs, Mid Lancs Cross Country League and the Red Rose Cross Country League, athletes collected individual and team medals and fell athletes finished high in the BOFRA, FRA and Inter-Pennine Series.

Under 15 boys competed in the North West Counties Road Relays Championships, taking the Lancashire County and North West Counties Championship titles.

At the Lancashire County Track and Field Champs and the Lancashire Schools’ Championships athletes collected 32 medals, some with Championship Best performances, and eight club records were broken.

Athletes have represented Lancashire County, Lancashire and North Yorkshire Schools and have received invitations to join the North West Fell Talent Squad.

The club has several athletes with performances in the top 10 in the North West and Athlete of the Year Leah Hillman, medallist at the English Schools’ and Northern Championships has performances high in the National UK rankings.
