Barrowford’s Commonwealth Games gold medallist Natalie Haythornthwaite has earned more silverware after being named the Vitality Netball Superleague Fans’ Player of the Season.
And the 25-year-old is looking to help Superleague leaders Wasps retain the title they won last year, as they look to advance to the Grand Final weekend at the start of next month at the Copper Box Arena, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
On Sunday, her club announced on their twitter page @Wasps_Netball “The Vitality Superleague Fans Player of the Season is... @nataliesymone Well done Nat, well deserved!! #wearewasps”
And Natlie responded: “Wow... Super honoured to receive this award tonight. Thank you! Love getting to meet our fans week in week out - thanks for being a huge support to me & all the team. We’re super lucky to have you guys! #WaspsFamily”
Having won gold with England on the Gold Coast at the Commonwealth Games, Wasps are looking to claim a second-successive Superleague title, in only the franchise’s second season.
On Monday night, having already earned a top-four berth, and a Superleague semi-final slot, Wasps beat Mavericks 57-50.
The win should secure Wasps a top-two spot and a home semi-final, which they will have to play at the University of Worcester.
Wasps are at Team Northumbria tomorrow in their final league game, with the Grand Final set to be held on Saturday, July 7th.
Last year, Wasps beat Loughborough Lightning to win the Grand Final.
