New captain starts his year of office

At the recent AGM at Ghyll Golf Club, the new captain, Steve Mortimer started his year of office.

His first job was to thank the retiring captain, Clifford Hillary for all the good work he did as captain last year.

Tom Ashby, the new president, also thanked his predecessor, Derrick Hartley, for all his contributions towards the smooth running of the club.

The new lady captain, Susan Taylforth had been appointed at the Ladies’ AGM, and was congratulated and welcomed into office at the Club AGM.

The new junior captain, Brandon Cocker, was also congratulated on his appointment.

The retiring Honorary Secretary, Ken Wilkinson, was thanked for all his hard work. which has helped to ensure the future success of Ghyll Golf Club.

Bob Presland was appointed as his successor.

Ken was also thanked for his role as press secretary.

His reports were not just comprehensive but witty and entertaining too!

He will be a hard act to follow by his successor Brian Chapman.

One of the proposals which was agreed by the meeting, was to raise the age for intermediate members subscriptions from 25 to 30 years.

This will be £225, which is 50% of the full membership fee.

Meanwhile, last Saturday the club celebrated Burns Night with a Caelidh.

The Rob Thorne Band provided a wonderful evening’s entertainment, which was enjoyed by members and guests who danced the night, and their supper away!
