After losing 2-1 at Ben Rhydding on Saturday, Pendle Forest have to win against Lymm tomorrow.

The locals would then have to wait on the outcome of Ben Rhydding’s game against Newcastle on Sunday, to see if they have clinched promotion to the North Hockey Women’s League Division 1.

After beating Newcastle 2-1 last week, Forest travelled to Ben Rhydding, but were soon facing an uphill struggle.

Within the first 30 seconds, a shot deflected off a defender and left keeper Laura Kendal with no chance.

And, only a few minutes later, the hosts converted another strike at goal.

Cathy Waters hit the post before, in the dying moments, Kayleigh Vickers deflected the ball into the top corner after a strike from Waters.

Meanwhile, proud Pendle Forest thirds lost out 2-0 to Garstang seconds on Saturday at Stanley Park, Blackpool in the Lishman Plate final.

Player of the match Cath Hutchinson, on the forward line, was in fine form linking well with Claire Birkett, but, despite shots from Birkett, Hutchinson and captain Diane McInnes, Pendle just couldn’t find a way past the Garstang keeper.

Frustration set in, and Pendle slowed and allowed Garstang in to take the lead minutes from half-time.

Pendle chased the game in the second half, and had chances for Thea Cormack, Bythell, Deborah Batley and Hutchinson, but the Garstang keeper remained defiant.

And Garstang, against the run of play, stole a scrappy second goal to seal victory.
