Pendle Triathlon Club event is a huge success

A total of 170 triathletes descended on Barlick for the annual triathlon event on Sunday.

In near perfect triathlon weather, two events were staged as part of the #PenTri15 – a sprint triathlon event consisting of a 750m swim, 22.4km cycle and 5.4km run, and the GoVelo GoTri event, consisting of a 250m swim, 11km cycle and 2.5km run.

The events were supported by GoVelo, Whalley Sports Massage and Jackoatbar.

The GoVelo GoTri event attracted 16 competitors and was won by Lee Carolyn of Holcombe Harriers in a time of 00:46:43.15, ahead of Emma Summersgill (00:53:54.90) and Janet Brooks ( 00:56:57.95).

In the Sprint Triathlon, first male was Brian Fogarty (01:08:16.70, Fitt), ahead of Matthew Davidson (01:08:44.35, JMCS Race Team), and Mark Clair (01:09:27.65, Mersey Tri).

First female was Angela Knowles (01:23:30.60), beating the first local female finisher Vanessa Holland (01:24:15.55) into second, with Nikki Rushton (01:24:39.80, Chorley Harriers) in third.

There were 23 Pendle Triathlon Club members in action in both events.

First local male in the Sprint Triathlon was David Mirfield (01:10:53.95), who finished ahead of Steven Gregory, with Michael Haydock third.

In the GoVelo GoTri event, Ian Barnett was first Pendle Tri Club member home, followed by Sarah Bullock.
