Barnoldswick’s Lucy Horrocks finished third in this year’s first National Series Mountain Bike race at Codham Park, near Braintree in Essex.
The Hope Factory rider has no experience at racing mountain bikes, and has had just a small amount of mountain bike skills training.
Despite this, she managed to finish third in the juvenile girls category, for girls aged 12 and 13.
Before the race, Lucy was a little apprehensive and wasn’t sure how the race would go.
She was pleased with the result as she competed against girls with much more experience, and although the course wasnt the most technical, there were still sections which required guts and strength.
She will compete in more National Series races but won’t do every race due to other commitments.
Lucy is also having a go at road racing. So far she has competed in two races, one at the Richard Dunn circuit in Bradford and the other at Southport. She was second in both races.
This weekend she is part of a team of four girls who will ride for Cycle Sport Pendle in the Youth Tour of Scotland.
It is a three-day event and includes a short time trial, a town centre criterium race and a road race. It will be the first time any of the girls have competed in such an event.
